The 1st of April saw our busiest day of activities, after much planning and anticipation shrub planting was carried out at most of the sites.
The weather was very mixed but that didn’t deter an early start for willing 18 volunteers carrying out various tasks in the morning to the larger central village areas.
Jobs included the sorting and moving of plants in a ‘fleet of wheelbarrows, setting out the stock according to the various planting plans, planting and the final tidy up.
Lunch of delicious homemade soup and bread rolls was again kindly provided by the village hall.
- well timed to miss a particularly heavy rain shower!
Refreshed following lunch, a small group continued planting to areas requiring vehicle transportation of tools and shrubs, finishing late in the afternoon, this concluded a full but very rewarding day.
We now look forward to a relaxing Easter break knowing the foundations of our project have been completed within the planting season giving our shrubs the best chance of establishment.
After Easter, we hope to be seeding the wildflower areas and completing our wildlife habitat ‘retreats’ including Hedgehog shelters. More details will follow.
