Location image

A small overgrown area with nettles brambles and saplings that have formed a perfect ecosystem for Wildlife. For instance Insects (butterflies bees etc.) possibly invertebrates and small mammals.

The intention is :

  • Lightly trim and tidy existing vegetation
  • Remove vigorous growing saplings
  • Form a small cleared entrance area
  • Create hibernacula and other wildlife ‘retreats’.

We finalised the creation of new wildlife habitats. Using logs and branches from the Oak tree the tractor tyre was filled to create a perfect habitat that should appeal to a wide range of wildlife. One of the hedgehog shelters was installed and covered with a protective layer of logs, branches and twigs.

This was certainly a daunting prospect trying to tame the small area of overgrown brambles and nettles.

The first task was to reveal the reveal the bramble covered gate so we could access the area.

Unfortunately the gate posts are completely rotten so we plan to replace using wood from the fallen Oaks kindly donated by Home farm.

A small path was then cleared to allow access and placement of the old tractor tyre from the adjacent area. This will provide the foundation of a new to be built wild life habitat structure.
