The bowls are historic 17th granite gate piers positioned at the Bowls cross road junction. As one of the road entrances to the village we would like provide some care and attention these structures deserve by :

  • Removing Ivy from their surfaces.
  • Tidy the area and remove over grown vegetation.
  • Construct a robust planter behind the Poltimore name plinth.
  • Plant the front and sides with a mix of seasonal bedding and perennials / herbaceous stock.
  • Install ground level solar uprights to the name plinth.
  • Plant bulbs in surrounding verge.

An initial tidy of the area included pruning of existing adjacent vegetation, digging over of proposed planting area and removal of Ivy from the Bowls stonework. Our planting scheme can now be finalised to take into account the conditions which are very dry shallow soil and shade.
