Having been grown off site for the least few weeks the specimen summer shrubs have now been planted. We are hoping the 3 Cirsium rivulare 'Atropurpureum' (Purple Plum Thistle) will provide colour and architectural impact over the coming summer months.

Possibly the toughest task of the day! The 3 large pots have been looking rather dejected with some sparse planting, poor drainage and waterlogged soil.

The only course of action was to carefully remove all the soil and unblock the drainage. Next a drainage layer was installed recycling plant pots. Compost was mixed with the best saved soil and planting completed with seasonal bedding.

The planting will be changed in a few weeks time for the summer display but in the meantime we have a welcome splash of spring colour.

A special thanks to our two volunteers on this one as it was wet, smelly and generally hard work.
